With just over a month until the commencement of the daily Geelong-Melbourne ferry service the star of the show, the brand new Geelong Flyer ferry, has taken to the water for the very first time..

The purpose-built vessel, which was built in Tasmania by Incat, has launched in Hobart and is now undergoing trials ahead of her scheduled commencement date on December 2.

Incat worked closely with operator with Port Phillip Ferries to deliver the purpose-built craft, which has a seating capacity of 400 and features an onboard licenced cafe, bike racks, charging stations and free wifi.

From December 2 the sleek catamaran will take commuters between Geelong and Melbourne multiple times per day, offering the chance to swap traffic jams for jam on toast, and the hunt for a parking space to a search for the seat with the best view.

The Geelong Flyer is a sister ship to the Bellarine Express, which sails between Portarlington and Melbourne daily.

Both vessels offer easy boarding for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and prams.

The Geelong Flyer is due to arrive in Geelong in the next few weeks.
