Fitout Leading Hand
After completing her joinery apprenticeship Sophie decided to apply her skills in the Incat fitout department. As a Fitout Leading Hand, Sophie oversees a team of highly skilled tradespeople who construct the internal spaces and furnish all Incat vessels.
“There’s plenty of opportunity here and there’s so much to learn. There’s always a new skill, even though I’m a qualified tradesperson and have been for 10 years I’m still learning things all the time. We’ve got a lot ahead of us so there’s only bigger and better to come.”

Welding Leading Hand
Ricky began at Incat as a Labourer in 1989 and progressed to become a Leading Hand in the welding crew. Ricky is now one of the most experienced tradespeople in the shipyard, and his welding crew help to build the world’s best lightweight aluminium ferries.
“I love working with the trainees and the apprentices, it’s great to watch them grow. If they’re struggling a bit, you help them out and if they’re going well, you pat them on the back and tell them they’re doing a great job. That makes them more confident and motivated.”
