Currently, Incat engages TasTafe as the RTO partner for all apprenticeships. Conveniently located on Bender Drive a few doors up, Incat has forged great relationships with the teaching staff at TAFE and applies a collaborative approach to support apprentices through the formal learning components of apprenticeships.
Coordinated by Incat’s Apprenticeship support team, apprentices will generally attend seven weekly blocks at TAFE each year of the first three years of the apprenticeship. This is paid learning and if required additional TAFE sessions can be arranged to support individual apprentices.
The learning and Development team help monitor progress and provide practice opportunities to supplement the off-the-job training at TAFE.
Incat apprentices receive ongoing support and guidance from experienced mentors and supervisors during the entire course of their apprenticeship. Incat Tasmania’s apprenticeship pathway requires each apprentice to work on different rotations across different production teams. Within each rotation you receive the opportunity to work with a different supervisor, team leader and supervising tradesperson as you learn the skills required for each part of vessel construction. This keeps the apprenticeship interesting while also providing a broad range of learning as you complete your trade.
Traditionally, apprenticeship rotations take approximately four years, however apprentices can fast track if they have completed the work while maintaining high levels of attendance and/or entered the apprenticeship with credit transfers from other learning activities.
By successfully completing an Incat apprenticeship, you can earn a certificate qualification. These are recognised Australia wide and range from Cert III to Cert IV with the level of complexity increasing at each level.
