Incat Ship on Show in China

The news that an Incat high speed wave piercing catamaran will be operating between China and Taiwan has been the talk of the show at a trade exhibition in the Fujian Province of China.

Incat Marketing Director Kim Clifford joined with Tasmanian Minister for Economic Development Mr David O’Byrne to inspect the 98 metre high speed ship which recently arrived in China from Canada.

The vessel was purchased earlier this year by a joint venture arrangement between companies from both China and Taiwan to operate on the recently approved direct sea route that links the Chinese Fujian province to Pingtan Island and Taiwan.

The vessel to be named Hai Xia Hao (“The Strait”) is currently being prepared for service with the inaugural crossings to Pingtan Island mooted to commence in September after the passenger harbour at Pingtan Island officially opens.

Kim Clifford said “The visit to Pingtan Island was very important to our business and having the Minister with us gave us access to senior government officials in the province and this will provide us with an excellent platform for future business sales”.

The 98 metre high speed catamaran, which can carry 900 passengers and 267 cars, will be able cross the Taiwan Straits comfortably in three hours, with a top speed of 40 knots (74km.hour).
