European Operator Trasmediterranea Announced as Purchaser of Incat Hull 058

Incat is pleased to announce that Trasmediterránea S.A., one of Spain’s leading ferry operators, is the purchaser of Incat Hull 058.

Contracted in March 2003, the 98 metre Evolution 10b Wave Piercing Catamaran will be named Milenium Dos (Millennium 2 – Spanish spelling) and is currently being prepared for handover to Trasmediterránea at Incat’s Hobart yard, in readiness for a delivery voyage to Spain and the European summer season.

The acquisition brings to three the number of Incat-built ships in the Trasmediterránea fleet, confirming the operator’s preference for proven high quality tonnage from a builder unrivalled in the field of dedicated high speed ship construction.

Incat Australia Managing Director, Mr Craig Clifford comments “We are very proud to have another one of our vessels join the Trasmediterránea fleet ”.

“A sale is always good, but a sale to a repeat customer brings added satisfaction. It confirms our customer’s confidence in the quality product that Incat delivers. Milenium Dos delivers proven technology, being capable of carrying passengers, cars and freight vehicles at speeds over 40 knots” Mr Clifford said.

In 2000 Trasmediterránea took its first step towards high speed catamarans with the purchase of the 96 metre Milenium (Incat Hull 056). Also in 2000, when Trasmediterránea required extra capacity at short notice they turned to Incat for a summer charter of the 78 metre Hull 033, taking the name Fast Ceuta and maintaining service levels across the Strait of Gibraltar for the remainder of the 2000 season. One year later the company purchased another 96m craft for service between Algeciras and Ceuta, Alboran (Incat Hull 052).

The sale of Milenium Dos is more good news for Incat and follows contracts for two new ships for the US Army and US Navy.
