Caribbean Ferries Acquires Incat Catamaran

Another Incat craft has found a new home, becoming the fourth ship placed by the Tasmanian ship builder so far this year.

Secured under a hire purchase arrangement, K3 joins new company Caribbean Ferries in the French West Indies, entering service between Guadeloupe and Martinique with calls at Dominica and St Lucia.

Built under a joint venture with China’s AFAI Ships Ltd, K3 delivers speeds of up to 50 knots lightship and 46 knots fully loaded at 167 tonnes deadweight. The vessel provides capacity for up to 400 persons and 89 cars including truck capacity.

Experienced fast ferry operators Messrs Claude and Guy Vala will manage the new company, bringing with them the experience of running long established Caribbean family operator, Brudey Ferries. Brudey Ferries will concentrate on the domestic ferry services while Caribbean Ferries has been established to operate on the international routes.

While the vessel was on her delivery voyage, it came to the aid of five Venezuelan fishermen who had been caught out at sea. The vessel subsequently arrived in port to a media welcome, followed by final preparations for immediate introduction into service.
